Talking about Social Networks at Rosario, by Sebastián Esponda
For a little bit over a year, I have been working at Globant focusing on social network projects (specifically, OpenSocial). Among the most important clients related to OpenSocial we have Google and LinkedIn.
Last Friday, Rosario held the first Software Development Innovation and Quality Event. Globant has offices in Rosario via Openware, but we wanted to strengthen our presence in the city showing that we work in the most innovative and modern technologies and that we have clients that work with agile methodologies.
To sum up: we were invited as speakers and we went to talk about social networks and how we internally implement scrums.
Despite the fact that the title of my presentation ("Developing Social Networks") was not directly related to the title of the event, we found a very interested and eager audience. Social Networks attract huge masses due to the multiple opportunities that come up each day and due to its great penetration in our daily habits. As a matter of fact, another presentation of that day -which was focused in market researches, did not hesitate to highlight social networks as a novelty worthy of worldwide attention.
After the talk, it was really pleasant to see how different attendees approached us to introduce themselves and to get to know more about our experiences. I was really surprised by the amount of youngsters willing to become entrepreneurs and start a project of their own, as small as it may be at the beginning, but thinking big for the future. During the few minutes that I spent talking to them I sensed a positive and adventurous environment, which reminded me of some of the Silicon Valley stories from the 80´s. Of course, the realities are very different, but they have in common the strength and willingness of the people, eager to build new and ground-breaking things.
It was also a very enjoyable human experience: everyone was very kind, there were a lot of invitations and touristic recommendations to get to know Rosario. I believe that it was a positive experience for everyone (the attendees, Globant and I) and I hope that there will be more opportunities in the future to spread Globant´s word and to connect with more entrepreneurs.
