  • Globant Joins the Tent Partnership for Refugees to Accelerate the Economic Integration of Refugees Worldwide

  • 20 Dec 2022

    Press Release

Tent

  • Tent is a global network of over 300 major companies that give support to refugees by integrating them economically in their new communities
  • Globant is joining Tent’s Sunflower Project to accelerate the financial stability of tens of thousands of Ukrainian refugee women

NEW YORK – December 20, 2022 - Globant (NYSE: GLOB), a digitally native company focused on reinventing businesses through innovative technology solutions, is joining the Tent Partnership for Refugees (Tent), a global business network of over 300 major companies committed to supporting refugees’ economic integration.

“This partnership allows us to strengthen our support programs for refugees and migrants on a global scale. As a member of the partnership, we will be offering specialized support to adequately reach refugee  communities and design programs based on their specific needs to help them enter the workforce,” said Francisco Michref, Government Affairs & Sustainability Director at Globant.

This initiative is part of Globant’s “Code Your Future - Moving Together” program, which offers a wide range of training and hiring opportunities for workers from groups that have traditionally faced significant barriers to integration into the local workforce. In addition to migrants, the program assists refugees in Europe, deported people in Mexico, and victims of armed conflict in Colombia, among other groups.

”We are thrilled that Globant has joined Tent,” said Veronica Rossini, Vice-President for Europe at Tent. “Recent crises in Venezuela and Ukraine have displaced millions of people across Latin America and Europe. It’s more important now than ever that refugees can support themselves and their families through meaningful work. By providing refugees with training and hiring opportunities through its Code Your Future program, Globant is making a meaningful and lasting difference in refugees' lives around the world.”

Tent works closely with businesses across the Americas and Europe to provide meaningful and inclusive opportunities to refugees. In Europe specifically, Globant is joining the Sunflower Project, a pan-European initiative launched by Tent to accelerate the economic inclusion of tens of thousands of Ukrainian refugee women through better access to employment. A recent survey showed that two-thirds of Ukrainian refugees are mothers with higher education degrees or highly qualified specialists from sought-after professions. Despite these qualifications, they face hurdles that prevent them from fully participating in the workforce – such as low local language proficiency, limited social or professional networks, and childcare and domestic burdens.

Code your Future is part of Globant’s Be Kind initiative, a global ESG strategy that unites positive impact programs for all of its main stakeholders and consolidates initiatives to tackle critical issues, such as DEI, climate change, education and ethics in AI, among others.

  • World Could Reach Net Zero Up To 10 Years Ahead Of Schedule with Full Adoption of Space Tech – New Model Shows

  • 08 Dec 2022

    Press Release

Inmarsat

Latest modelling from Globant and Inmarsat reveals existing and developing satellite technologies could cut a further 18% of total global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2040

New York, 8 December, 2022 - The world could reach Net Zero up to 10 years ahead of the 2050 target date if  industries (1) make the most of existing and emerging space technologies, according to new data modelling from Globant’s Sustainable Business Studio, commissioned by Inmarsat, the world leader in global, mobile satellite communications.

Satellite technology already saves 2.5% of total GHG emissions, but the report reveals a clear missed opportunity to fast-forward the transition. Globant’s analysis suggests that full adoption of currently available satellite technologies by 2030 would make it possible to achieve a further 9% reduction in global emissions.

Elena Morettini, lead scientist behind the report and Global Head of Sustainable Business at Globant, said: “Following the close of COP27 it remains clear that solutions to reducing humanity’s carbon emissions are vitally important. What we know is that from a technological and scientific standpoint, the potential reduction in CO2 emissions from satellite technologies is immense.”

“It is definitely not a lack of innovation preventing greater sustainability success. Instead, it is a lack of investment that stands in the way of bringing the Net Zero reality closer to the findings of our modelling.”

Examples of how far-reaching the impact of nascent satellite technologies could be for decarbonisation include:

  • In passenger transport, technologies like route optimisation, the rise of air taxis, and continued working from home practices can deliver 3.1 Gt of CO2 emissions – equivalent to just over the entire EU’s 2019 emissions (2)
  • In freight transport, we could see a 25-fold decrease in carbon emissions from speed management and fleet management innovations (0.05Gt to 1.25Gt)
  • In oil and gas, methane detection could deliver a reduction of at least 10% of emissions – encouraging news for the methane pact discussed at COP27 (3)

Rajeev Suri, Inmarsat CEO, said: “Satellite technology today helps tackle climate change and, with greater will and investment, it can deliver even more in the future. Globant’s modelling demonstrates how space can make a major contribution to slashing humanity’s carbon emissions, with emerging technologies offering even more benefits, alongside other similar initiatives. Progress does not need to stop, nor be reversed for the world to meet its Net Zero goals. That is why it is imperative that governments and industry leaders take the initiative to assess their decarbonisation strategies with satellite technologies in mind and align their investments to solutions that not only decarbonise, but make industries more efficient and resilient, helping to build for the future.”

Diego Tartara, Chief Technology Officer at Globant, said: "Our perspective is that any challenge is better solved in a collaborative manner and that technology can be a powerful decarbonization accelerator. We are proud that Inmarsat chose us to produce such eye-opening research that confirms the amazing opportunities, both, in terms of efficiencies and optimizations that satellite communications can offer to a broad array of sectors."
