Press Release
Company reaffirms its commitment to ensuring greater diversity, education and employment for minorities in technology by joining organization’s board
SAN FRANCISCO, February 24, 2021 – Globant (NYSE: GLOB), a digitally native company, today announces Fernando Matzkin, Chief Business Officer of Globant in North America, has joined the board at the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME), the largest provider of college scholarships for underrepresented minorities. The NACME’s board membership demonstrates Globant’s strong commitment to education pursuing degrees at schools of engineering for more diverse STEM talent.
By partnerships with like-minded entities, NACME provides scholarships, resources and serves as a catalyst to increase the proportion of African American, American Indian, and Latino young women and men in STEM careers. The organization helps satisfy the high demand that exists today for STEM talent in the United States while supporting these groups’ needs and forming business ecosystems that incorporate graduates into their work teams.
According to the Women, Minorities, and Persons with Disabilities in Science and Engineering Report, published in 2019 by the National Science Foundation (NSF) “In 2016, underrepresented minority students received 22% of all S&E bachelor’s degrees and 9% of all S&E doctorate”. As part of its Be Kind initiatives, Globant is focused on changing this reality by creating more opportunities for professional development among highly-qualified, diverse talent in technology.
“For Globant, we have long understood the importance of building greater diversity in the technology field and the impact this mission has on building teams that are creative, innovative and that can make the difference in our teams, clients and in the world, said Fernando Matzkin. “NACME’s mission is well-aligned with Globant’s commitment to educating and inspiring the next generation of STEM talent, so I’m thrilled to be joining their board. I’m looking forward to what we’ll accomplish together.”
“The demand for STEM jobs is continuing to grow, and NACME plays a critical role in helping corporate partners tap into highly-qualified African American, Latin, and Native American engineers and computer scientists,” said Michele Lezama, president and CEO of NACME. “We are thrilled to welcome Fernando Matzkin to our board. His insights, expertise, and commitment to diversity in STEM represent an invaluable contribution to our mission.”
In the context of Black History month, Globant also strengthened its relationship with NACME, entering into a collaboration agreement that will allow the company to participate in programs to create opportunities for candidates of science and computational systems internships; train young people, from vulnerable situations in IT to help them join the workforce; and find solutions together to ensure the quality of education, and ensure a sustainable future for all through technology.
